What is Arete Chess Academy?

We are a licensed chess day camp designed for students of all ages and skill levels. We provide children and teenagers the opportunity to learn or develop their chess abilities in a friendly environment at a low cost.


Does my child need prior experience?

I have additional questions that aren’t listed. Who can I talk with?

Absolutely not! Our beginner class provides the perfect opportunity to learn the fundamentals of chess. At the end of the course, your child will have everything they need to continue progressing into the chess world.


How much does it cost?

Our price is $165 per participant. for a full 9-hour session. We also offer a sibling discount for two or more family members for only $150 per participant.

This covers the cost of materials, facilities, food, instructors, insurance, and other fees associated with operating our camp.


Is the camp competitive or recreational?

Both. We balance instruction, friendly competition, and fun activities.

How are students grouped?

Students are grouped by skill level, age, and experience to ensure appropriate instruction.

What is your registration policy?

That depends on their current skill level. Our advanced course is designed for students with USCF ranking of 1000-1500. Participants who exceed this are more than welcome to enroll, although their current abilities likely exceed our instructors!


Is the camp fun? Will my child make friends?

We offer full refunds up to 12 hours prior to check-in. We cannot offer refunds past this point, however, due to insurance coverage costs.

All materials are provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own snacks, water bottle, and notebook (optional).

Yes! We combine instruction with games, tournaments, and engaging activities. Our camp is a great place to meet peers with similar interests!



Do you prepare students for tournaments?

Yes. We teach tournament skills and etiquette.


Participants are encouraged to register early due to limited spacing. However, we do accept registrations until 12 hours prior to check-in (usually 8:00 PM).
